After you launch
If you will not open the report, do not put a novel in the query string.
UTM parameters are labels on a URL. They are useful when two sources of paid or printed traffic would otherwise look the same. They are clutter when every Instagram story gets a unique campaign name you never read.
Tag links when spend or a print batch needs a name. Keep the counter QR clean unless you will compare sticker versus flyer. We do not provide an analytics suite, empty cells stay empty.
What UTM is
utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign on a URL you already own. The page should be the same useful page. Tags are not content.
What we shipped
utm-builder helps you not typo the labels. It does not show a dashboard. If you need reports, that is a tool you already have or you do not, we will not fake one.
How to tag a real campaign
One campaign, one landing URL, labels you will recognize in a month.
- Write the landing URL (slug or domain) that is true this week.
- Open utm-builder. Set source/medium/campaign to words you will remember (facebook, paid, spring-cards).
- Paste the result into the ad or the QR for that batch only.
- When the campaign ends, stop using that URL. Do not leave tagged links as the bio forever unless you still mean them.
When not to UTM
The only URL on the door sign. A verbal URL on the phone. The first honest visitor. Those do not need makeup.
Canonical clutter
If two tagged URLs are the same page, that is fine. Do not build a second thin page per campaign. No city doorways with UTM lipstick.
Pro
A custom domain does not include analytics. $12 is still not a suite.
Limits and caveats
If you paste UTM into a QR and then change campaigns weekly, you will reprint forever. Plan the batch.
If a sentence would require a competitor SKU we have not verified, or a statistic we did not measure, it does not belong here.
What to do after you read this
If this page answered the query, open Create with the nouns from your own business, not a slogan. If it did not, you are probably in the wrong cluster: go back to the blog hub or After you launch. Do not spin a second URL for a synonym. One intent per page is the whole point of this library.
Tools that actually do this job
These are public pages. Use them when the job is this job. They are not a second product you have to buy.
Questions people actually ask
Do you have Google Analytics?
Not an analytics suite we sell. Empty cells stay empty.
Will UTM hurt SEO?
Tagged links to the same canonical content are normal. Fake extra pages are not.
Should every Instagram post be tagged?
Only if you will read it. Otherwise the bio stays clean.
Does Cipher add UTM?
Not as a default personality. You add tags when you spend.
