Shops and catalogs
The first angry email is a late time to invent a return policy.
A shop without return sentences still has returns, they happen in DMs, one-off, inconsistent. Put a policy on the site that you will actually run. Cipher can draft tone; you have to mean the rules.
Decide what you take back, in how many days, in what condition, who pays postage, and what is final sale. Put it on the site before the first charge.
Not legal advice
Consumer law varies. This is operations copy, not a statute. If you need a lawyer, hire one. We are not that.
Final sale has to be true
Food, custom cut, intimate goods, if you will not take them back, say so on the card, not only in a footer nobody reads.
Who pays return postage
Say it. "Customer pays return shipping" is a sentence. Silence is a fight.
How to get it on the page
Write the rules in the brief as bullets you would read aloud to a friend.
- List what is returnable and what is not, in nouns.
- Write the number of days and the condition (unopened, unused, etc.).
- Write who pays postage back, if anything ships back.
- Generate. If Cipher softened a final-sale rule, restore it in the brief and rebuild.
- Connect checkout on Pro only after you can live with those sentences.
Refunds are the processor
You refund from your payment account. We do not hold a float. No sales cut does not mean we issue the refund.
Change later
If the policy changes, update the site the same day. Old orders may still follow the old words, that is why you write them early.
Limits and caveats
A copied policy from a giant retailer may not match your shop and may not be lawful for you. Do not paste. Write.
If a sentence would require a competitor SKU we have not verified, or a statistic we did not measure, it does not belong here.
What to do after you read this
If this page answered the query, open Create with the nouns from your own business, not a slogan. If it did not, you are probably in the wrong cluster: go back to the blog hub or Shops and catalogs. Do not spin a second URL for a synonym. One intent per page is the whole point of this library.
Tools that actually do this job
These are public pages. Use them when the job is this job. They are not a second product you have to buy.
Questions people actually ask
Do I legally need a returns page?
Depends on where you sell. Not legal advice. You operationally need a sentence.
Can I say no returns ever?
You can write it if you will enforce it and if your laws allow. Still say it clearly.
Does Cipher know my state law?
No.
Should returns be in FAQ schema?
If they are real FAQs on the page. The FAQ tool is for markup of visible Q&A, not hidden rules.
